Do you think he's one of the oldest combat troops over there?

  1. Could be close but we have a 57 year old in my reserve unit.

The use of large numbers of National Guard units plus the number of Reserve units mean the personnel will be older.  I am guessing the average age of troops serving or have served in Iraq is going to be around thirty or close to it.  This actually is more historically accurate for the 1900's on for the military.  I do not remember the exact ages but I researched this a long time ago and the average age of combat troops in World War Two was a little over thirty, the Korean War was the mid-twenties and in Vietnam it was nineteen (first time it was less then the voting age which was 21 and a major force behind lowering the voting age to eighteen.

  3. h**l no.  its old folks all over around here, we had a guy leave in Jan that was 62.  the army doesn't care unless you are about 70
