My best friend is getting married, but her fiance is embarassed by her wedding dress?

My best friend is getting married and since I am too, we have decided to help each other pick out our wedding dresses. She is not very traditional, and has decided she will not wear white. Instead, she wants a wacky crazy wedding dress that will make people's jaws drop. She has explored a few dress options, but her fiance has pulled me aside and told me he is embarrassed by her choices. He does not know how to tell her without hurting her feelings, because he doesn't want his friends, relatives, and work colleagues to see her in ANY of these dresses. He asked me for advice on how to tell her, but I really don't know what to tell him. Can someone offer some advice as to a nice way he can tell her?

  1. I'm going to offer you my opinion, since you asked what people think about your friend's wedding dress choices. And there's nothing wrong with being non-traditional with the wedding dress, but at the same time, she should still be tasteful.

The Black One: I personally love this dress, I think it's beautiful. However, for a wedding I think it's a little too gothic. It would look nice at a prom, but black for a wedding? Even though it has some white, I think it will send the wrong message, unless she is going for the "Corpse Bride" look. Still a beautiful dress, just not for a wedding. Maybe the bridesmaids could wear it?

The Black and Red One #1: I personally don't find it attractive at all. It shouldn't be a wedding dress, and I just don't think it's pretty. It's not very flattering.

The Black and Red One #2: A very cute dress, but she got it from a prom site. Once again, I don't think it's wedding material. It looks more like she would be going to a prom, and the black doesn't send a good message. I'd prefer the black and white one you mentioned first over this one. Compared to this one the other looks more wedding appropriate.

The Pink One #1: I don't know why her fiance would hate this dress! I happen to think it's very pretty. Yes, it might have a little too many ruffles, but most wedding gowns are made like that. The only exception is that this one is pink. Pink is a more appropriate wedding color than black and red.

The Pink One #2: I don't like this one. I prefer the first pink one, it had more wedding appeal. This one looks like something I'd wear to my Sweet 16. And the first pink one had classy ruffles. This one seems sectioned.

The Red One #1: I personally love this color. Maroon happens to be my favorite. But for a wedding dress? I'm sure it would look gorgeous on your friend, but I'd see it as more of a color the bridesmaids might wear.

The Red One #2: I love this dress, and I could actually see it used as a wedding dress. This red one works more than the first one, because it's a brighter happier red. The other one was too dark. At least this one has some white on it!

The Green One #1: This is a beautiful dress. I would get married in it! It has the off white on the bottom with my favorite shade of green on the top. If I were her I'd pick this one or the Red #2, because both are gorgeous!

The Green One #2: I'm sorry but this is a HIDEOUS color. I don't know why she'd want to wear this! People's jaws will drop alright, but probably because they want to throw up. I'm sorry, but it once again looks like a prom dress, or even a bridesmaid's dress. Tell her to keep it as an option for a bridesmaid's dress, but PLEASE do NOT let her wear this to her wedding. She will most likely look back on it someday and regret it.

The Yellow One: Wow, that's a bright color. This would be a better bridesmaid's dress. I don't see it as a wedding dress at all.

The Melon-Orange One: This is a very cute dress, and I happen to love that color. However, I don't see it as a wedding dress. It's more of a prom/bridesmaid's dress. Still cute, probably more appropriate than some of her other choices.

I know she said she wanted non traditional, and some of these are definitely non traditional. But she should also have a pretty one. I hope my opinions helped somewhat.

To sum up, if I were her I'd pick between Pink #1, Red #2, Green #1, and maybe the Black one, just because it was pretty even though I thought black isn't right for a wedding. Good luck to you and your friend!

  2. Just like what the other poster said, it is okay to be non-traditional but she could at least be tasteful. Of all the dresses, I liked the Maggie Sottero with the red and a little bit of white on it. It's the more weddingy. All others look like prom dresses and most are hideous. Maybe you can tell her that even though its her wedding and that she could wear whatever she wants, she would want to wear something that will make her fiance cry of happiness and pride and not cry because of embarassment. :)

  3. Some one those are actually pretty cute, like the 2nd red one.

  4. wow some of those are beautiful! i like the pink ones, and the one her fiance liked.

i'm having trouble understanding a couple things about this whole thing though; 1. why is he shocked by her choices? he is MARRYING this woman and yet he doesn't understand or accept her? this should not be news to him. 2. he's EMBARASSED?? really?? wow, if i was his fiance i'd be crushed. and embarassed to have a man like that.

  5. it looks like they are going to prom and not having their wedding.

Having a wedding is a special day for BOTH OF THEM to remember that day for the rest of their lifes.
