He is always at the top of his tank just swimming in one place, basically not moving. I will poke him every once in a while to see if he'll move and he'll just swim to the other corner of the tank and jnust swim there. Does anyone know what might be wrong with him? I think he might be dying because he's 3 years old... but does anyone have an idea?

  1. He might just be getting air from the surface.  3 years is a good age for a betta...he's an old guy, so maybe he's just not as vigorous as he used to be?  How big is your tank, and do you change the water frequently? Is the water well oxygenated?  If water quality is poor, he might be trying to get air from the top.  More info would be good.  I hope he does well!  I hear they can live up to 5-6 years in optimal conditions.

  2. Most Bettas do that all of the time. He may just be old, but my bettas do that mostly all day unless it's feeding time or water change day, so you probably have nothing to worry about. Try changing his water, see if that perks him up a bit.

  3. well my betta fish do da same they only do that when they want to be fed or wen they are really bored..just set them up houses or things like that have different color rocks catches they're attention..those are just ways to keep them from being bored....if he is a male well you should probably put him in a community tank with other fish but carefull that u dont put the with male guppies cuz they may fight ...and other male bettas ..and try not to keep the water too cold and too warm..

  4. Have you had him for three years? Have you made any changes to his climate (water)?

  5. What is the temperature in his tank? How often do you change his water? What size is his tank? Is he eating?

The average betta lifespan is 3-5 years (with the record being 7 years I believe) so if he is 3 years old then it could very well be getting close to his time.
