My beta fish is very fat... it is so fat it looks like it is going to explode. why?

you mentioned that it is a girl. it could mean that she is egg bound. If that is the case, a common treatment is to add a small amount of epsom salt to the water- one teaspoon per 10 gallons. other than that, she could be constipated. try feeding her tiny pieces of a pea as roughage to pass the food through. if her scales are sticking out like a pine cone, she could have dropsy, which is usually fatal.

If it's a she, which you stated in your last sentence, she's probably full of eggs.  You can tell for sure by checking in front of her anal fin.  If there's a white tube sticking out, she's ready to spawn, but would obviously need a male to do so.
