My old betta died... probably of old age. He was acting normally then he just went and kicked the bucket :(

I am not sure how long he had been dead when I found him this morning.

My tank is the Eclipse Corner 5 and its heated and filtered.

How do I prepare it for the new betta? I don't want to have to cycle it again...

  1. I don't cycle betta tanks, since their hardy. I just buy them a few days after the tank is set up. Do a 50% water change, simple as that!

  2. As long as it's been running to maintain the cycle and the old fish didn't die of a disease you shouldn't need to do anything but a partial water change and rinse the filter.

  3. As long as you keep the same gravel, your tank will remain cycled.  Just rinse the gravel and wash out the tank and start with all new water treated with a water conditioner and your tank will be ready for new inhabitants.  Nitrifying bacteria live in the gravel bed and in your filter so as long as you don't replace both of these at the same time, your tank will not have to be recycled.

  4. If you didn't empty it I see no reason as to why you'd need to cycle it. Just take care of him/her like you did the last one.

  5. better clean out the whole system  or sell the fish tank  and get a cat

  6. Clean out the water and a little bit of the glass.

Then add nw accessories to the tank to make it look cleaner then make sure everything is running correctly like the filter and add new clean water and a little bit of water drops that make it non foggy and clear.

    Then buy your new fish!

    Hope i helped! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
