My betta fish ate an ant, now his stomach is big and round! What to do??

My betta fish ate an ant about 3 weeks ago, and his stomach has been big and round ever since. Looks like I can see through it, and it's not his intestine that looks big, like when he's over fed. Does anybody have any idea what this might be?

  1. I would just wait it out for a while. S/he could just be getting fat.

Do you have a male or female betta?

  2. omg; if your fish is in water, how can it eat an ant? well, whatever the reason; probably something in your fish's stomache swelled up. but it's like that for 3 weeks, so it's surprising that it's not dyeing or something. try consulting a vet, take it for check-up.

  3. He could be experiencing bloat from the acid released from the ants body causing the lining of the intestines to become irritated. Treat him for bloat and see it will eleviate the problem. It wont hurt the fish, only do better.

  4. The reasonable reason for this is you should wait three more days and IF it still "as big and round" as you say it is bring it to a go to petco.

p.s. go to the closest one.

go to find the closest one by going on line to petco.com

    p.s.s. Best of luck:)

  5. fish do eat ants in the wild so it is probably some other problem
