  1. Well, how old is he? I have a betta he's 2+ yrs, he's gotten thinner. it maybe aging, or illness. most of my fish that get sick either heal or die. ( i cant go out and get meds- tried and made things worse) Just continue feeding him regularly, and make sure you keep on top of cleaning his tank every 6 - 10 days. stagnent water encourages bacteria growth which can cause infection. he may have an internal parasite, this you cannot do anything about, just feed and hope for the best!

  2. Skinny but still eating sounds like an internal parasite infection.  Best bet would be to use a medicated anti parasite food, but the problem I've found with those, the fish don't like them, so don't eat them.  What I do, there's a liquid antiparasite medicated food called Gel Tek Ultra Cure PX by Aquarium Products.  It contains metronidazole, praziquantel, and flubenol.  The fish are supposed to just eat those drops, but none of mine ever did, so I soak some frozen bloodworms in a small bowl with a few drops of that, and let it thaw.  The praziquantel covers most internal parasites.

I treat all new fish I buy with that concoction, along with some antibacterial food.
