I have a betta who lives in a 5 gallon tankand, I just noticed about 2 hours ago he has been constantly swimming from the bottom of the tank to the top back and forth very quickly or he will stay in one spot and squirm up against the tank wall. then he will just sit at the botto for awhile not moving and then do the same thing over again.. it almost looks like he is having a seizure though i know that is probably absure but that's just what it "looks" like. Does anyone know what could be wrong with him I am kinda worried???

  1. my beta fish-which i had 4 like 2 years did the staying at the bottom thing and the fast swimming for about a week and then he died. : ( not saying ur fish will die but...

    i hope he'll b ok

  2. A good possibility is that he needs increased air in the tank. I am not sure if you have an air pump or not, but if you don't, take out half of the old water and add some new water at room temperature. Do not fill the tank all the way to the top. Leave at least 2-3 inches of space at the top of the tank without water. This increases the air surface in small tanks. Good Luck!

  3. alot of fish will act like this if the have ich, or some other parasite. look for little sprinkles of white on the fish. if you see this, the fish has ich, one of the most common parasites. if you catch it early enough, parasites are mostly simple to treat with a tablet or some other medication.

  4. check your ammonia levels, if they're not at 0 then he's stressed

if they're at 0, then it's just normal behavior

also get him some liveplants where he can rest in, they love to hang out in them like

    water sprite

    water wisteria

  5. I would change the water and scrub the tank. also you might have put to much conditioner in the water. for five gallons you would probably need 1/2 a teaspoon. check the label.
