The white spot/bump was there when i bought him, but it was very small. I didnt notice it. I got him 4 weeks ago. He never really ate much but he was quite active. He is in a 1-gallon tank (not bowl) with declorinated (I use Topfin as a dechlorinator), unheated, unfiltered water. But the day before yesterday, when I was doing his weekly water change, I noticed that just hours after I changed the water it got extrememly dirty (I did a 25% water change). So yesterday I gave him a 100% water change (keep in mind that throughout the last 4 weeks the bump above his mouth was getting bigger and bigger) and the water got even dirtier. But when I woke up this morning I saw that the tank was filthy and the water was very very foggy and that my betta had a gigantic white ball (the spot where the bump was) and there were strands of white filmy stuff hanging out behind it. He was in the same spot for the whole day (i assure you he is not dead, just been gulping air). The fungus-looking stuff the scales are spiked up and the whole side of the face has swelled. Just to be on the safe side I moved him to a warmer room in the house. He hasnt eaten anything for the last couple of days and I'm very worried about him! Also just as a note, the tips of his tail fin have turned black and are starting to look ragged and curl up. What can I do to help my betta?

p.s. i reposted this twice.

what can i do right now?

he's so weak i'm afraid he'll be dead by tommorow morning.

I can't run 2 the pet store (cause its night)!!

  1. Follow the instructions I gave previously.  Other than that, there's not really anything to be done at this point.

There may have been something in the container previously that would cause this problem, or on the ornament, if you have any.  Don't place any of those in the new container.  If you have to use a quart, or even pint jar for a couple days or so, do it.  Make sure no water from the current container gets into the new one.

    Good luck.

  2. im so sorry check this out

    good luck

  3. sadly i don't think you can do anything for him but hope for the best. one of my fish was 4 years old and its intestines burst out the side of its belly. then they started dragging behind it, and the fish's side turned black. Amazingly within a few weeks the intestines diseappeared and the whole sealed up--it was always black but the fish lived for another year! good luck

  4. Your betta is in rough shape. Sounds like a fungal infection and maybe even fin rot. If he is still alive in the morning, go to the pet store and buy medicine to treat his tank. Try melafix, or something that the associate suggests.

  5. Your betta really isn't doing very well.

It sounds like he has a fungal infection (Ich?) fin rot and possibly dropsy.

I honestly think he is beyond help.

You could try an epsom salt bath though. 1tbsp./gallon of epsom salt and leave him in there for about an hour. Than (if you used his 'home' tank) do a water change.

I am really really sorry. :(

In order to prevent this from happening again in the future, get at least 2.5 gallons, with a heater and filter (you seem to be doing a good job but it will help)

Good luck and I am sorry

  6. i would actually say it was an internal bacteria infection if he survives till tomorrow go to the pet store and get an anti internal parasite infection treatment i always use medicines from inter-pet and have done for so many years i find it helps my fish hope he is ok by the morning and good luck
