A family friend got me a betta in a 1-gallon-bowl, he's been making bubble nests, so he's happy rite? Should I still get him a tank? I will buy him a heater and filter next weekend (i've only had him for 2 days) to put into the bowl (they're made especially for bowls), so do I really still need 2 get a tank?

  1. I would suggest you do get him a 4-5 gallon tank..those small kits are really cheap...this will give him a healthy and longer life...bowls tend to shorten the life of your fish...

  2. Well I have a one gallon tank and hes perfectly healthy and happy there. Water changes are already annoying enough. Only healthy bettas make bubble nests so yes your fish is happy and healthy.

So unless you really want to I wouldn't worry about needing a bigger bowl. Just make sure the bowl has top or else the betta can jump out (:

  3. actually, a 5 gallon tank is preffered=] the more space your lil fishy has along with their heat and filtration, the more energetic and pretty h**l be=] so, i say, get him a 5g tnak with heater and filter, youll be glad you did!! =]

  4. look at it this way, would you rather live in an apartment or a mansion. plus with a bigger tank you can get them tank mates

  5. Yes, Bettas are happiest in a 5 gallon tank. Many Bettas will blow bubble nests after they've been transfered to a new area. "It sets off a hormonal tendency b/c they think they're gonna mate. It does not always mean that they're happy."

You will find that you're betta will get very bright in color, more active, and will last years longer in a 5 gallon tank. You won't need a heater unless your house is less than 72 degrees at normal temperature. I suggest the Eclipse 5 Hexagon because it comes with a filter which a betta will need. It's a myth saying that a betta only breaths air straight from the surface. In fact a betta does both, it takes oxygen from both the water and the air itself. The filter will help keep your tank airated for the little guy.
