So, a few days ago my boyfriend drove my car while I was in the passanger seat on our way to one of my friend's picnic; well due to construction work on the hwys there were sudden traffic and my bf couldn't brake in time so we end up rear ending another car. Their car had minor scrathes on the back bumper but my car's hood got smashed in moderately bad (it's not too bad) but I will have to replace the grill and hood (or so I believe) so we reported the accident and I made a claim. The accident is our fault so now I'm wondering who's driving record will be affected? Due to my bf not having insurance my insurance is going to handle the accident so any idea on how much my premium is going to go up?

  1. It's yours to deal with.  When you allow someone to drive your car, since insurance goes with cars and not drivers, you are covering them with your insurance also.

Any tickets issued are his, but any increases in your policy as a result of what they paid out will be yours to deal with at renewal time when they re-evaluate the risk factor you present to them.

  2. Well, no.  Because if your boyfriend was already a listed driver, I'd say about 20%.  But because he's not, you're going to have to add him as a driver, so depending on his driving record, it could double or triple.  Or, it could go up 20%.

  3. Depending on what company you have your insurance with, what your BF driving record is, have you had any previous claims? These are things to take into account.

Some insurance companies are giving grace to first time benders that are not real expensive to fix.

Check around on different companies and see which one is the best for you! Good Luck!

  4. Depends on the laws of your state.  Chances are that he'll get points on his license and your rates will go up.

Don't as Mike S suggested commit insurance fraud.  Be honest and pay the price.  If you take his suggestion and not report that your bf was driving then you could be prosecuted.  Not a good idea.

  5. Wow that really really sucks...I have been in this situation but by the grace of God everything worked out, as well the accident was not our fault. If you want the truth both of your records will be affected, and your insurance will shoot sky high bc you were at fault not only for the accident but letting a person who wasn't listed on your insurance drive. They might not even cover any costs bc the driver was not insured...ugh... Good Luck - Ps DO NOT  lie about him driving bc they will take statments from the other party and they will say the he was driving not you as well if the police came by adn they took your statements they need to match bc insurnace will look at all of it!

  6. The person driving the car that got the ticket.

  7. No ones driving record should be affected because its only a minor collision, as long as it wasn't reckless driving or anything no records should be affected.

Have you told your insurance company that your boyfriend was driving, if not i wouldn't recommend it unless he is covered by your insurance. No idea exactly how much your premium will go up its different from insurance company to insurance company. If its your first claim it shouldn't be too hefty.

  8. hi. i know my friend got into an accident where she rear ended a jeep a few months ago.  she was driving a 2 door honda civic and it crushed in the front end.  her car was totalled. I am not sure on how much her premium went up, but i do know it did and she got a few points on her insurance i think.  i know it's not much help but you should ask your insurance how much and if it will or not. they will have no problem telling you.

  9. Alot, if they consider your boyfriend a second driver of the car they will charge you at least the rate a teenage boy pays ( I paid $180 monthly).

  10. Your boyfriend should get the ticket, but your insurance will go up.

Anytime you rear-end a car or other vehicle, you are at fault

  11. Lots of possible scenarios since insurance regs change from state to state.

    Assuming that:

You are not in a no-fault state.

You were in the car, and your boyfriend had a valid license.

They will pay for the repairs if you had comprehensive insurance, less your deductible.

The rates go up according to statistics by state, driving record, etc. Ask your insurance agent for details.

  12. It depends entirely on your insurance agency. Us hud talk to them
