we are looking to move to canada, but we don't know where abouts, we are wanting to move to the suburbs of a city. where would you recommend? my boyfriend is wanting to do outdoor sports whereas im wanting the shops and the city life style.

the thing is im not sure if i'll be able to find work, because im a beauty therapist, and a trained make up artist (theatrical and fashion make up) is that work avaliable easy over there? my boyfriend is a joiner/fitter so he will be able to find work.

is canada like america at all?? any help and info would be amazing, thank you =]

we are looking to move in about 3 years.

xoxo

  1. Wow...these answers are ridiculous.

The East Coast has Halifax Nova Scotia...you could be a big fish in a small pond.A house that goes for 1 million in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver would be 200k in Halifax.

They have a huge theatre and music scene and a great deal of filming there for movies. They look for good people in your field all the time.

I'm from Canada and spent 2 years in Vancouver, and a year each in Toronto (Very cold city with cold people) and Montreal (Doesn't like to be considered Canadian and treat you like h**l if you don;t speak French).

I absolutely love Vancouver and would say it's one of the top 4 cities in the world and would highly recommend it. Do lots of research first before you move but I wouldn't recommend Montreal as it will be very difficult getting a job there and the temps are FREEZING ion the winter.

Halifax doesn't get much snow and had wonderful people that will make you feel at home. It's a bit slow and has a small town feel.

Vancouver is dynamic yet chilled and relaxed. A massive film scene also. Very nice temps with almost no snow.

    anyway, good luck.

PS...the differences between the US and Canada are not that huge. I spent 32 years in Canada and the last 8 in the US so I have a pretty good idea.

  2. Victoria or Vancouver have the mildest weather, the rest is freezing cold in the winter !

  3. British Columbia sounds right for you. Vancouver area. lots of outdoors and great fashions. no canada is not like america..

  4. I think the best cities that would fit your situation is either Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto. Those are the 3 biggest cities in Canada, all in need of a joiner/fitter, and he can make good money. Also with your makeup thing there are lots of plays and theaters in Toronto and Vancouver. French is mainly spoken in Montreal so that may be a problem for you if you don't know how to speak the language however many people there can also speak english. The real estate prices in Vancouver are very high. Like a nice suburban house or condo/apartment could easily be over $600,000 for the house (probably a bungalow) and maybe between $500,000 - $ 600,000 for a condo that is nice. I hope this helps. Oh, and Canada is nothing like the U.S. There are more murders in the US in one day then there are in Canada in one year. Cleaner, better gov't (in my opinion)

  5. The above poster gave you very good advice. Those cities would be best for you, as they all have great Theatre districts, and many movies are shot there. I also agree that Canada is NOTHING like the States.

  6. montreal is a great city to move to, because quebec has a stable economy and jobs, but you need to know french or most places may not hire, but montreal has mountains, great shopping, french lifestyle.

ottawa is also very nice because theres a city there, but its not a very huge city so it would also be a good place to look into for outdoors and city.

and calgary is also worth looking into because it is a very fast growing city.

  7. There are plenty of pleasant cities, but I have to tell you that there isn't a lot of new opportunity as a beauty therapist and make up artist. A friend of mine in a major city in Canada has given it up and retrained for something else. Perhaps you will be luckier than she was this year.

If you would like to move in two or three years, you should start to apply for your visa soon. There is quite a wait list:
