My bf has told me that he is colour blind and i;ve never really thought about it until he sometimes doesnt notice colours etc.

I want to know what he sees so i can be a little more understanding.

I've noticed he gets blue and purple mixed up and sometimes pale pink and creams..but thats all i know because he never really talks about it!

Do u know what type he has? Any tips or info... wud be great if you were colour blind yourself and could offer me advice because he gets a little upset when he cant see what i can see.

  1. There are three main types, and a few very, very, rare exotic ones.

The two most common ones, Protanope, Protanomalous  (1-2%)  Deuteranope, Deuteranomalous(7-8%) share a red-green confusion, but differ as to which other colours might be confused.

The milder form is -anomalous, and the stronger form -ope in each case.

Protanopic people tend to see red as a dark colour.

In both of these, Blue/Yellow are safe, unconfused colours.

Tritan- is much rarer and does have blue as a colour that can be confused with others

On line tests are a little uncertain, as on-screen colours are somewhat unpredictable.

There are tricks to make colour blind people temporarily discriminate things that they can't nornally, (for instance, in some cases, tell which of two identical appearing wires is the red one and which the green.) and even to make people with colour vision temporarily colour blind.

But about one man in ten has a measurable (but minor) colour vision anomaly, and about one in fifty is judging traffic lights by their position on the pole, not by their colour.  It's that common.

  2. Most likely he's red/green deficient as the blue/yellow version is extremely rare.
