  1. They race motorcycles.  All you have to do is no your bf's bike and number.  Then stand on the sidelines and watch him come out of the hole shot, watch him take the burms and get a lot of air on his jumps.  It's actually, pretty exciting.  My son raced for many years.  And my grandson who is only 19 mo., probably will, too.

Be sure to take some friends or at least one friend, because it can be a little lonely when he has to go take his place.  Our whole family used to go every Sunday.  It was a riot.

Oh, the hole shot is were they line up to start the race and when the flag goes down, they all crunch into this smaller section of track.  If he can get out there in 1st to 3rd place, he's doing awesome.

A burm is a hill and getting air is when he takes a jump into the air with his bike..

You can go to the video store and find videos on motorcross.  That might help you become a little more familiar.  Of course, you want to impress him.

  2. get to know it

    WHAAAAAAT A RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  3. It depends on what is being explained. They race bikes (as you know) They have numbers on their bikes which are used in keeping track of position on the track and for record keeping and placing." On the line" means they will be the next race after the race that is "at the gate" starts. "Hole shot" is the first bike to clear the first turn after the gate. "Whoops" are the bunches of bumps in a row, a "jump" is self explanatory, "doubles and triples" are series of jumps. A "tabletop" is a jump with a flat part on top, which can be up to, like 100 feet long. A "roost" is the flair of dirt that flies off the rear tire in a turn. "Holding your line" means, when you take a jump, you stay in the same line through the jump and after, so someone jumping behind you doesn't land on your head. A "block pass" is when they are just even in a turn and gun it straighter in the turn so they end up in front of the person they're passing. Any other, specific, terms you need?

Oh, and there are "motos" and, sometimes, "heats. A "moto" is a race, of course. They often, will race 2 motos, per class, in a day of racing (they can race any number of classes so, they can race lots of motos in a day). Their place in the motos is considered in their placing. If they get a first in the first moto, and a third in the second, chances are, they will get a 2nd overall, depending on who they beat in the first moto and if that person came in ahead of them in the second. "Heat" races mean that, generally, they will race three times in a day. An "A heat", a "B heat", and then the "mains". The mains are the finals, for lack of a better term, for the day. They will have A and B heats and a Main for each class they race. The "classes" can be determined by size of bike, type of bike, age of rider, and proficiency of rider. There could be 250cc class, 14yo and under class, Pro or Pro/am class, 2 stroke or 4 stroke class (these last 2 refer to type of motor). Most of the time, there're lots of people around the track who would be glad to tell you what's going on. When your BF isn't racing, or on the line, have them explain what's going on as you watch other classes race. If you don't understand something they tell you, try to repeat it using your own words, it they are a BF, they won't think your questions are stupid. Have fun, it's addictive.
