My big toe does not hurt if I bend it downwards, but if I flex it in an upwards position, it is extremely sore right right at the base. I am not sure if it is the tendon that is causing pain. When I push on the tendon, it hurts worse... I have no idea what is going on! Can anyone help??

  1. A condition known as 'turf toe' can be the cause of your pain. This happens when you hyperextend your toe and damage the capsule on the bottom of the joint (can also injury the tendons).

Do you recall doing any injury? Try and wear some stiff shoes (like runners).

Look at this link on turf toe - http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybert...

  2. Do you drink a lot of alcohol or eat  a lot of meat? Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the blood. Most of the time, having too much uric acid is not harmful. Many people with high levels in their blood never get gout. But when uric acid levels in the blood are too high, the uric acid may form hard crystals in your joints.

Your chances of getting gout are higher if you are overweight, drink too much alcohol, or eat too much meat and fish that are high in chemicals called purines. Some medicines, such as water pills (diuretics), can also bring on gout.
