I dont know why, but one day my gears just started to change for no reason. When I pedal, it stays at the same gear for about 10 seconds. Then, it shifts and keeps shifting as if it fell out of place and was trying to go back where it started but couldn't. I flipped the bike over to see what was wrong and when I pedal, the bike chain has a little glitch or skip in it. What do i do?

  1. You don't give enough information for an answer. First thing to check is see if the right side dropout is bent. Grab the chain in both hands where the "glitch" is and flex it back and forth. You have a tight link.

  2. Following last anwer, it might be that, so the little screws have a plus and a minus sing near them try moving them, there a lot more cause that this could be happenin, you can try to tense the cable that controls the rear deraleur by unscrewing a bolt where the cable enters your shifter, also check is the cassettes sprokets are aligned, also you have yo check your chanin

  3. If you can't fix it yourself take it to your local bike shop .

  4. This is called "autoshifting." You probably don't need anything more than a derailleur adjustment. The best source for instructions on how to do anything on a bike is the late, great Sheldon Brown's web site. Look at http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustm...

Park Tools also has a good web site. Look at http://www.parktool.com/repair/byregion....

  5. ok ok ok. your rear deraileur (shifter), the thing that actually touches the chain to shift, is moved over too far. there are a couple screws on the deraileur that are there to adjust that bar thing.

  6. the chain must be to looose
