My bike gear shifter isn't working. It puts my bike in a different gear than is selected how do i fix this?

The bike is an older vertical 21 speed, when I shift it puts me in a gear 2 lower than the one I have selected. For example 5=3, This happens in all 3 settings. Is there a way to fix this?

yes simple turn the cable nuts under the shifter

i have that porblem too like 4 years ago when i am small

now i am 16 years old

Your cable could be stretched, take in the slack, it may take a couple of goes to get it right. Just alter the adjuster nuts/bolts.
