My bike is running very inconsistantly?

I have an older bike, its really running odd. It was bogging down very bad. I just replaced the tank and totally cleaned out the carburetor thinking it would make it run better and now its really messed up, its very bogged down and doesnt rev up at all. Its... well slow, and runs like c**p. WHAT do I need to do??

Sounds maybe like a plug problem but if it wasn't doing it before and now it is I bet there is something caught in of the jets or you could have possibly altered the float level in the carby. Take a step back and think of the basics. SPARK, AIR, FUEL.

Sounds like Fuel to me. Check the new petcock and make sure it's opening properly. You didn't put in the old gas did you? Is there a seperate fuel filter? Any air trapped in the fuel system somewhere?

you need three things to work right so that it will run:strong spark,continuous supply of fuel,good compression. Pull plug and hold it against the cyl. head with some rubber handled plyers, turn it over, bright spark?run a bank note through the points.Pull fuel line-good stream? check that fuel cap vent is ok -try with cap off, new fuel filter. Put thumb over plug hole turn over-seem weak-do compression test. I think its' the carb. take it apart again, check your float level is working correctly and all the jets are free of debris.
