Ok. I have a green male Indian Ringneck who is about 9yo. Adorable bird - whistles, talks and blows kisses. I find it strange though when we get him out and talk he bows - he has been doing this since he was born. Like he puts his head up, makes a noise then puts his head down then makes the same noise. This is also happens when I give him food in his cage but he bows to the seed as if in thanks. I'm not really sure. What is he actually doing and why does he do this...?

Paulie (the parrot) also regurgitates on me when I have him out and the vet says he is 'sexually attracted' to me. Does anyone know how to stop this? We have tried putting him back in the cage after he does it but nothing has seemed to work? Any ideas...?

  1. Well, it generally means that he has a strong bond with you and trusts you not that he is "sexually attracted to you". I mainly means that he is hormonal and trust me, all birds will regurgitate at some point in their life. If he has a mirror, you could choose to take it away to stop him from constantly regurgitating to the mirror (they think there is a bird there obviously) and it may stop him regurgitating on you.

    Hope I helped abit

  2. =D Your bird loves you! He's trying to feed you, he must really care about you. Just clean up the mess and go about your way. That's cute. =]

And when birds regurgitate they "bow".

  3. I can't answer the bowing part unless this is just a personal habit of his that he's got.

Regurgitating on you is normal for a bird that has bonded with you.  He's feeding you.  This is what they do for their mates and it's a sign of love and affection.  We usually discourage ours from doing it because he gets too agitated and can become aggressive.

Learn the signs, the body language he exhibits prior to regurgitating and try to distract him to calm him down.

I think the bowing is kind of sweet as long as he isn't having other trouble with eating.  It sounds as if he's actually responding to the food and to you in a positive and loving way.
