My cockatiel just died, but I still have another one. He keeps singing for her and waiting for her to answer. He saw her dead, but does he know what that means. I thought about getting another one for him, but would that make it worse. Is there any way I can help him know.

  1. Your cockatiel may grieve for some time.  When my female died a couple of years ago, the male grieved for several months.

Spend lots of time in the room with him.  Put several mirrors in his cage.  Talk with him a lot and give him plenty of attention.  Grief is a natural process.  It's hard to watch but your bird will get through this.  Just give him plenty of understanding and extra love.

I'm sorry for your loss :-(

  2. My cockatiel just died too i suggest getting another female to help him get used too the fact that she's gone, and i'm really sorry to hear about your bird, i hope this helps.

  3. its your turn to sing to it, build a relationship with your bird, it loves you to, it'll like you more for it.

  4. Birds won't know when another bird has died, even though they see them. They will call for the bird for like 5mins for 2 days and they'll notice that there no longer there but they won't know that they died. Birds don't have feelings like humans. So no, the bird will be fine alone and will be fine if you get another bird. I'm sorry about your loss, i had 1 of my parakeets just die 5days ago and i really loved  him and i hate seeing things happen like this. Though in my opinion, you should get another bird to keep the first bird company.
