Question:

My bird is almost 6 months old. its a cokatiel i have its parents but te problem is that her neck feathers...?

havent grown in yet why is that? we give them vitamins and calcium and so many treats they have a huge cage where they can roam in?

  1. Cockateils especially have a habit of feather plucking.  This can either be caused by having feather mites, which can be easily treated, or more commonly, boredom.  It may be feather plucking for something to do.  Make sure it has plenty of distractions and things to occupy it's time.  Treat bars are a great way of distracting them and encourages their natural instinct to pick their own food. If you are in doubt, don't hesitate to ask a vet.  :)


  2. Is this bird in with other birds? Young birds will develop a game where they pull a feather from their friends. Kind of like a game of tag instead they take a feather. You will have to find the culprit. You wouldn't want to breed out of a bird that pulls feathers.
