My bird is to agressive?

i got an adult cocktail bird as a presenst about 4 months ago and until now the cocktail is afraid and very agressive what can i do to calm him down and make him more comfterble around me and my family

The first couple of months is very stressful for cockatiels,first off clip his wings. To start training him get some canvas gloves, try offering him some seeds and other treats by hand, don't move too fast or you will scare him, try moving your finger near his lower abdomen and say up, try to do this everyday and I am sure after a while he will accept you and not be so afraid. Typically a bird is less friendly when they feel they aren't getting enough attention. If they see you and they're stuck behind a cage, they feel left out, and will likely take it out on you next time you try to take them out. Try spending as much time as possible holding your bird and letting him/her socialize.
