  1. You probably weren't paying attention to what it was trying to tell you.  Birds use their bodies to talk also and will back away from you a little when they don't want to be touched or picked up.  If you ignore this and go after them anyways they will probably move yolur finger away the first time.  The second time they will move it again.  If you continue to ignore their body language the third time you will get bit!

So just pay lots of attention and see if you can tell what he is trying to say.  You will get bit a lot less and your bird will learn to trust you and know that you understand him!

  2. eat it for dinner.  that will teach it

  3. You must be bothering it. Leave it alone and let it get settled in its new home. Biting is the bird's way of chasing you away.

  4. maybe the bird is hungry

  5. i got a hamster about a year ago that didnt bite for the first 2 weeks i had it then it bit all of a sudden and it turned out she was pregnant

  6. You didn't state the species of bird, or age.

Birds bite for a reason, one we don't always know or understand. Sit and observe your bird doing what he does naturally ~ perching, eating, playing and watching you and other things and people in the home.

The better you know your bird behavior's and habits the sooner you are able to spot something amiss, then you can correct it. Also birds hide sickness like the birds in the wild do, look at the birds droppings daily ( p**p) and check how much of the food you give is actually eaten.

Back to the bird biteing you. Assuming he isn't injuried or sick, chances are good he is upset over something or someone in the home.

Are there any changes, new chair, or moved chair, lamp, Etc.?

Too loud TV or music? You or someone else when too fast to his cage and scared him? New toy he doesn't want in his cage? You changed his food? Something outside a window or outside sound maybe. Other animals in the home?

Play detective while watching this bird.

Always let a bird know you are coming towards them by talking to them and ask other's to do the same thing.

fear makes birds bite, some times it's just a sudden move from us they weren't expecting.Trust is very important between bird and owner, if not there the bird is stressed and stressed birds can get sick easily.

Re- build the trust and relationship by moving slowly, talking to the bird and make eye contact. Look around the room for anything that might frightened him, something not there before.

Wet hair, nail polish, new shoes, these often can scare a bird until they become use to seeing them.

Just watch him and talk to him from afar acouple days, then go sit beside the cage and talk to him and see how he re acts. Next day try to hand him a nut of millet through the cage bars, hopefully he will take it, if not try the next day.

Don't get mad and never yell at a bird, they don't understand and will only cause them to be fearful.

Go slow and easy at the birds pace to make friends.
