My 3 years old green chick conure is most of the time cutting the cotton rope perch in her cage. It sounds very harsh on her beak but I don't know if it is because she is bored or what? She had an accident 2 years ago in which her lower beak split in half. She had multiple surgeries and now after 2 years of constant care she has started to grow some healthy (which I am very happy about). Her upper beak is longer than usual to protect her lower beak (vet suggestion). She cut this ropes all day with her upper beak mostly which was trimmed twice last month as I was worried that it being too long is the cause of her act. Well... it didn't help. As I am typing she is cutting ropes... Is it normal? Does your bird do that? BTW, her mate (also green chick) doesn't do this at all.
