i have a black moore and i've had him for about 4 years, he turned bright gold like my comet, and i don't know whether it was from bad water or just a bad breed of fish. some people even said that extra good conditions can turn them gold but i don't know, i didnt look after him very well. the water is perfect now and has been for months (since i figured out how to look after fish properly). the bottom half of his eye has gone black, like there is something in there and i can only see half of his pupil. he's swimming and eating and very active. whats going on???

  1. are you feeding your fish enough?

I know that happened to a friends fish - the stupid girl fed the fish so little it was starving.

Feed your fish enough to cover a (hmm let me think of american money) hmm 20c coin? the one that is an inch in diameter. I suggest that you feed it more than you are doing.

  2. Blackmoores can turn gold with age (among other things I can't remember currently).

My blackmoore started turning a goldish colour at 5 years old.

One of my goldfish has a mark on his eye like you described, and he's fine.  It might be a marking change, or he may have injured his eye on something in the tank. Because they have the big googly eyes, they're very prone to eye injuries.

However, if he is eating well, and behaving normally I wouldn't be to worried.

Keep the water clean, and keep an eye on him. If any other symptoms appear (white mouldy stuff around the eye, bleeding, change in behaviours) talk to your local pet shop. I wouldn't medicate yet (medication often does more damage than good), but if it is a wound and it gets infected they may be needed.
