  1. All humans can be a vegetarian regardless of blood type.

  2. Peter D'Adamo's blood type diet is pure junk science; he offers very little by way of scientific evidence and relies on anecdote.

If you've read the book, you'll know he covers his back by saying that individual variations still occur within blood types and that you shouldn't expect all of his recommendations to apply to you.

Be a vegetarian if that's what you want to do, but whatever you decide don't base it on that piece of quackery

And as far as I know D'Adamo is a naturopath, not a doctor

  3. Diets based on blood type are BS designed to sell books.

Your ABO blood type is based on a single protein (one of many) on the surface of your red blood cells. It has nothing to do with how you metabolize food.

Diets like that are designed to prey on most people's ignorance of science. ABO blood groups are one of many, many unique proteins on your cells that let your immune system tell your own cells from foreign cells. If you receive the wrong blood type in a blood transfusion, your immune system will attack the new blood cells, threatening your life. Blood type has NOTHING to do with food intolerances or metabolism.

  4. Whoever came up with that idea is a total quack and a fraud.

This is the equivalent of eating a diet based on your Zodiac sign but that would probably be more scientific than the blood type BS.

  5. That's nonsense.

Note the credential behind D'Adamo's name is "ND." Doctor of Naturopathy. Naturopaths do not have any legal authority to diagnose or treat illness.

Go to any hospital and ask them how many naturopaths they have on staff. There won't be any. They won't have any snake charmers or faith healers either.

  6. The Blood type diet is an interesting if not proven theory that different groups of humans evolved different blood types to be able to live on non-meat diets.  Asians have a much higher rate of type B(who eat much more veggies) and nearly ALL Mayan are type O (who are historically hunter/gatherers).

In Japan, blood type is sometimes used like astrology to help determine if two people are compatible.

Some other theories about blood type is that type O people relax better by excercizing while other types are more likely to meditate.

I had a shiatzu massage and the person giving it asked me my blood type.  When I said O she said I should avoid raw vegetables and cut back on grains.

By checking out the distribution of blood types among different groups, you can see that there is a well defined correlation between blood type and traditional diets, but this does not mean that type Os cannot eat grains or that type ABs should not be carnavores.

  7. I'm not a huge authority on the subject but from what I've heard I tend to think that the "blood type diet" is nonsense. I know several very healthy, happy life-long vegans who have type O.

I don't believe that the theory has much more credibility than a diet plan according to hair colour!

The wikipedia article cites sources at the bottom.

  8. Pure nonsense. Blood type has nothing to do with your ability to digest and assimilate various foods.

    Don't believe everything you read.

Being a vegetarian is no more harmful to type O folks than to anyone else.

  9. The Blood Type diet is a laugh, if you were to read any particular passage of it in my med school classrooms we'd probably roll around, peeing ourselves laughing.

It's just another fad, the author of that book is deluded at best, at worst he is hoping that his pseudo-science will convince people into buying up copies of his book.

Your blood type has NO impact on your diet. There is no medical evidence to support the claims in that book. My husband is Type O and is now vegan and is doing very well, better than before. I am blood type A and I'm doing just fine as a vegan as well.

I wouldn't worry about pseudoscience, you need real medical knowledge instead. If you were to base all your medical knowledge about diet on what the current diet fad is, then you'd eat nothing at all - carbs are bad, fat is bad, animal protein is bad, soy is bad, coffee is bad, using plastic cookware is bad, Teflon is bad, salt is bad, pepper is bad, cayenne pepper is bad, food is bad, water is bad.

  10. umm i went to that website you provided and it says "The science behind this diet is highly questionable"

it even says it there...plus..you could get protein from other food sources ..plus...that sounds totally crazy

  11. The blood type diet is an extremely dubious bunch of nonsense.  You can be anything you want.  But eating only vegetables is tough.  Obviously it takes a lot of work and research to get your protein - where for a regular eater - we can have a piece of meat and eggs.  But if you can stick vegetarianism out, it's an interesting experiment.

  12. Everything I've read about this "blood type diet" is a theory that one doctor presented in a book called "Eat Right For Your Type."

However experts and dieticians have called this entire theory rubbish and not factual.

As long as you're eating nutritious and getting all your protien and vitamins and staying healthy, your blood type will not play a factor in what type of diet you should chose.

  13. That's ridiculous.

  14. I haven't heard that? I am O+.

I don't know why blood type would affected but I who knows, hope not!

  15. I am a non-vegetarian, but this issue comes up in the health sciences lessons I teach at school.

Rest assured, you have nothing to worry about as long as your diet is balanced.  If you look at the book available regarding any type of diet, you would be surprised how two people can eat the same food and actually live: too much bollocks out there when it comes to diet books.  Nothing beats a balanced diet, veg or non-veg, it is your choice.
