Question:

My body is acting up since i became a vegetarian?

i gained 10 pounds ever since i became a vegetarian in april this year(now its august)

i worked out adaqueatley, and either way i hardly gain weight when i dont work out for a while its mostly ill get weaker.

i gave up meat for philosophical reasons, but if its gonna hurt my body, i dont know if its worth it.

usually i eat fruit, and veggies but i only go groceries once a week so the fruit doesnt last me the whole time, so usally i end up eating a lot of bread chese and little vegetables. is the excess in carbs whats killing me?

PLEASE HELP!

  1. KEEP GOING!!! here is your problem. You stop eating meat but then you are left with veggies so you resort to junk like cheese and candy and chocolaate etc. here is somthing i saved on a word doc. that a gave 2 another girl

    HEY! I've been a vegetarian my whole life and I'm 13. My mom is a vegan and she is a proffesional chef. She is constantly making new things, is working on her 4th cook book, owned a bakery and a restarant (she sold it) and always cooks for my family.

    So hear are some things that are really easy, healthy, and yummy. For breakfast, I like to have tofu egg. It's soooooo good. I know the pickest eater and she will eat nothing but white rice. And she loves it!!!! So what you do is:

    Heat up the pan on high for about 1 minute.

    Spray Pam or spread olive oil.

    Mash up tofu on the pan so you have little tofu bits

    Pour on soysauce

    THEN THE BEST PART........ You'll need nutritional yeast....its so good. but when you have it, you put some of that on. Maybe half a cup. More or less. Depending on how you want it.

    Feel free to add on more of soysauce. When your done, mix it around and have some toast on the side!!!

    I want you to know that smoothies are really heallthy. And you don't always need yogurt or milk. Frozen fruits like berriees, bananas, peaches watever. the pour soymilk about three quaters of the way. u can add dates in. or agave nectar to make is sweet. OPTIONAL: to make your parents really proud, add flax seed. They don't taste like much and thy're reaaaaallllllyyyyyyyy healthy.

    I know it's easy for me because I have a mom who supports me and can cook, but you can do the same. I suggest you buy some cookbooks. And you can ask me anything else for more recipes.   2. If you eat too much bread and cheese, you're going to get fat. It's not happening because you are vegetarian, it's happening because you are eating too much or eating the wrong things.

    How old are you? You had better be over 21, because if not, you have no business complaining about ten pounds, unless you're trying to stunt your growth to stay "petite".

    Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentil, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

    All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

  3. EAT SOME MEAT!!!! your body is so used to eating meat(yummm), that you it needs meat

Possibly, it sounds like you are eating a lot of empty calories that have no nutritional value, I make at least 2-3 trips to the grocery store for fresh fruit a week, but if finances are a problem for you in that respect, you can always get canned fruit that is packed in it's own juices, not the syrup b/c that stuff will keep for a long time.

  5. You might be eating more without realizing it. Make sure you are getting enough protein. Try adding some hummus, tofu, beans, and peanut butter to your diet. Can you eat eggs? Try some egg white omelettes or hard boiled eggs for snacks.

    Also, I recommend talking with a nutritionist if you can. It is possible to be vegetarian and be healthy so stick with it. A  doctor can give you tips on how to keep everything balanced so you don't feel sluggish from not eating meat. Also, I think vegetarians need to take a B vitamin supplement because the body doesn't produce it on its own. It only comes from meat. Another good reason to check with the doc.

  7. Hi, i was vegetarian for 4 years. I think the problems is in one of those: if you eat soy, it could open your appetite. But other reason could be the lack of proteins, in me give me a lot of craves. Try to get more protein instead of carbs, like in eggs. I was for philosophical reasons too :) i love animals.

  9. It's the starches and the cheese. Eat more vegetables. Also you still need protein. Try eating beans and brown rice.

  10. The carbs arent doing all of it, but the high calorie choices your making are. Bread and cheese both have 100 + calories per slice. Try adding organic eggs (ones with omega 3's) and fish to your diet. Both have essential fatty acids and low in calories to keep a stomach satisfied. You dont have to give up bread and cheese but keep it limited.
