Had the kitten a few weeks now. He's 14 weeks old.My older cat(4 half years old) is fed up with the kittens antics. She will hiss and lash out at the kitten but he just comes back for more. They will on occasion sleep on our bed many feet apart, but thats it..She never spends time with us anymore. She eats then goes upstairs to our bed out of the way.She isn't happy at all.He isn't learning that Amy doesn't want to play.Is there a way of calming him down.He will be neutered in November but thats a long time away.Any tips

  1. Female cats espicially are very territorial...since Amy has been in the house longer shethinks that its all hers and until she understands this kitty is not trying to take over lol she will be edgy. plus its the job of the kitten to annoy her...he's a baby. its just like humans if you think of it, our younger siblings annoy us sometimes...and we can feel like our personal space in being invaded and that makes us want to be aone...same thing...theyll get used to eachother

  2. This is normal behavior. My mother has a kitten and now I have one. This is what they do. Kittens want to play. They rarely sleep. My mother puts the kitten in a bedroom when she's at work or at night. This gives her other cats a break. I put the kitten in a separate bedroom when I'm at work to keep the kitten safe and to give my other cats time away. Is this an option for you?

edit: The kitten will calm down as she gets older. My cats still love to play so I'm hoping that the kitten will eventually play with them and it will work out. It takes time. I've had her about 3 weeks now.

I spend more time with the kitten. But I will actually go over to my other cats because they don't come to me like they used to. It seems normal and should get back to normal in time.

  3. No, that is what they do.....where do we get these people?????!!!!  PLEASE read up on some kitten books. Thanks

  4. Our older cat was 1 year old when we got our second cat.  The older guy didn't like the new girl at all at first.  It took a few months of hissing, fighting, and one scratched eye until he took a liking to her.  Now they are practically inseparable.  I think it's just going to take some time.  As the kitten gets older and begins to get a little lazier it should begin to better for both of them.

  5. Sounds like your older cat may be a bit jealous and feels left out.  Maybe try giving her extra attention.

The kitten is just being a kitten, they're always hyperactive and it will take a while for him to get out of that.

Maybe try separating them and spending time with each one separately.

Plus, since the female cat is not the kitten's mother, it is only natural for her to reject it.

Hope that helps in some way! Good luck!

  6. That's normal kitten behavior. He wants to play but your older cat doesn't. That's why she hisses and lashes out at him. She's letting him know he's annoying her but he hasn't figured it out yet. All I can say about that is that he'll calm down when he is older.
