My bookmarks menu disappeared. What do I do?

At the very top of Firefox, there are buttons like "File," "Edit," "View," etc. There used to be a button called Bookmarks up there as well but I somehow got rid of it. How do I get it back?

Note: This is different from losing all of my bookmarks. I have all of my bookmarks. None have disappeared...It's the menu that has.

  1. Try installing the add-on Menu Editor (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox... ).  It allows you to manage your File, Edit, etc. buttons.

Once you've installed it, go to Tools>>Add-ons>>Menu Editor>>Options.

From the drop-down menu, click "Bookmarks."  Check the button next to it that says "Visible."

    That should solve it.

  2. I have looked all over the options on the UI and cannot find an option to hide or show certain main menu buttons, such as File, View, Edit, and of course, Bookmarks. Now, the Firefox Toolbar is fully customizable. All you do is right click on any button, or beside a button, and click Customize. As I am sure you are fully aware. However, I do not see an option to show or hide, or even delete, a main menu button. Do you know what you did right before it disappeared? Did you apply a new Theme? If so, try to restore your last Theme and see if that restores your Bookmarks button.

Open your All Programs menu and open Firefox in Safe Mode and see if the Bookmarks button is present in that carnation. If not, keep going:

If that doesn't work, try a System Restore point. Take your system back to a point in time when your Bookmarks button was present on your system.

If you would rather not attempt a Restore point yet, you can search the Firefox Knowledge Base, (I have done this already, but you may find something I missed). Here is a link:

You also have the option of posting a question at the Firefox User Forum. You can ask this question there. That forum is dedicated to users of Firefox and have people who not only have a lot of experience using Firefox for years, but even those who have aided in the design and programming of this browser. I use Firefox too, 3.1, but, I am relatively new, as I have only been using this browser since version 2.0. I love Firefox, it is so highly customizable.

You also could attempt to remove Firefox and then reinstall. When you do this you do not lose any of your Bookmarks or user settings. These settings and options are stored in a separate location so you can fix an issue without losing valuable data and/or customizations.

I hope you are able to quickly restore your Bookmarks button, or have somebody help you find out what happened and fix the issue.
