it may have gone off, (possibly during an argument) and caused the crash. This is new infor to me. I always thought it was an inexperienced pilot's error. What do u think of this new info?

  1. No Gun Shot...Pilot Error, he flew without visual.

  2. I beleive it was pilot error, he read the gauge wrong, instead of inclining the plane was declining, plus the snowstorm was blinding, and he carried the gun for protection because he was carrying the money from the performances. regardless it was a terrible loss to the music world. buddy holly was a great talent as was the others

  3. Unless he shot the pilot, a gun would not have caused a crash. If you are thinking explosive decompression, a hole less than half an inch wide is not going to cause that. The Mythbusters proved that a myth.

  4. Doubtful.  There's nothing in the accident report (see link) to suggest this.

Holly was really pushing his luck by flying in poor weather conditions with a relatively inexperienced pilot.  He should have stayed on the tour bus, and so should Richie Valens and the Big Bopper.

The pilot was not qualified to fly on instruments only - Which is what you need if you're going to fly through cloud or in poor weather.  As he didn't, it's quite possible that he became disoriented and lost control.  It happens depressingly often even now.

  5. Its bologna! It was caused by icing on the blades.
