My boss shows favoritism...should I call her on it?

My boss grew up with the women I work with and often leaves me out of conversations/lunches/meetings... which I dont mind for the most part, until they start talking about work and then I am left out of knowing important information. A lot of times it comes up after someone says something and they say, oh thats right I forgot to tell you...

I m confident in my job, but our annual reviews are coming up and I dont know if I should bring it up.

  1. I wouldn't unless you want to be fired try talking to the person your boss is showing favoritism towards but don't get mean about it or else you could get into some trouble

  2. Pointing fingers at the boss doesn't sound like a good idea.  Instead, I'd go a different route.  Let her know that you want to be able to do your job as best as possible becasue it's really important to you.  Let her know that if there are any important announcements or updates, you'd like to be kept abreast of them so you can do you part in the company.  Your interest and ambition should catch her eye, and prompt her to keep you informed and thus leave you with a good review.  If she doesn't keep you informed, drop by or ask her if she can meet with you from time to time to discuss changes/announcements.  But don't have an attitude about it even though I'm sure you'll be very frustrated.  I know I would.  Putting her on the defense with accusations will probably have the opposite effect you're hoping for.

BTW, I don't think your boss's leadship style is fair or good for the company.  Bosses should be friendly, but should not be 'friends' with employees for this very reason.  If you really love your job and want to stick it out, you're going to have to be the bigger person.

  3. I wouldn't use the word favoritism... however I would mention that you would like to be kept in the information loop, and give some examples of how this has affected your performance.....

  4. It depends how you bring it up.  If you mention that you don't always receive the information that you need to do your job best, and you think that office communication could be improved, and you have some suggestions about how to improve communication, that's fine.  It shows that you are motivated and interested in doing your job.
