  1. Dance in front of a mirror like Rocky and Apollo did.  Just kidding!  Seriously, for rhythm, the best thing to do is learn to coordinate your movements.  And that starts with balance.  Here are some easy points to help you.  These worked for me.

1 - Get in the proper stance

2 - Step with your punches.  Don't let your feet get too close together or too far apart.  If you step with your lead foot, make sure to have your back foot follow.  Count if you have to.  1-2.  If you are moving backward, step with your back foot first.  Going to your left, left foot first (same if you are going to your right).  It is just like doing a waltz.

3 - If you need to control the space between your feet to ensure they don't get too far apart, tie a rope between your feet with about 1-2 feet of slack (depending on your height).

And with your punches, you need to turn your hips (just like you are hitting a baseball).  When you throw a right hand, turn your hips so all of the weight is on your left leg and when you follow up with a hook, you will be driving more power.  Turn your hips again with the hook so the weight is now back on your right leg.  Same with slipping punches.  Slip the jab to the outside, all the weight goes on your right leg so you have power with your counter right hand.  Slip the right hand and your weight goes on the left leg so you can throw a powerful left hook counter.

Start slowly and practice proper technique and before you know it, you will have rhythm.

  2. Same thing as when you were a baby and learned to walk.  There is no secret.  Just work on the basics and many, many repetitions.
