My boyfriend's really uncomfortable around snakes, help?

Okay, it was his idea in the first place to buy me the snake as a gift, but he's very uncomfortable around them. He doesn't like to watch them eat, and he refuses to handle them. With the new snake he's gotten me, I want to try and get him comfortable around it, just in case I can't take care of it for whatever reason(Vacation, work, illness, etc.). Any ideas on how to get him adjusted with this little hatch ling snake(Seriously, it's only a baby)?

I'm with him, I'm not a snake fan.  If he's not comfortable and doesn't want to handle them or "get to know them", there really isn't much you can do.  Be happy that he is ok with your affection/interest and just let it go.  As with anything, the person has to want to do it and if that's not the case, fer get about it....

Even though you say he's not afraid I think he is to some extent, probably of being bitten. He is not going to admit that he is scared of something so small (I guessing a hatching corn snake?) to his GF. My roommates used to be afraid of my ball python but after seeing me handling it and learning how gentle he is, they became more interested.

I think the best thing to do is to simply handle you snake when he is around. If you sitting on the couch or hanging out in you house, grab the snake and handle it around him and ask if he would like hold it, but don't push him too hard. The more time he spends around the snake, the more comfortable he will be.

If he is so afraid of snakes why did he buy you one in the first place. Some people have an inbuilt fear of snakes as they usually come with a bad press, but they are a fascinating species and as long as you choose the right one, they make great pets. Try and persuade him to just touch the snake at first, he, like a lot of other people probably  think that they are cold and slimy although they are not, and eventually he will get around to handling it.
