  1. Getting married before is better. Children who are up for adoption need two parents that they can count on. Marriage is like a for sure thing and then the child can have a mom and a dad.

    Good luck!

  2. If you have a stable enough relationship that you plan to be together forever, get married and THEN adopt.

If you're not sure where your relationship is going, figure that out and solidify it (get married or break up) before either of you pursues adoption.

Remember, adoption is a huge decision that causes life to change forever, and that puts a lot of strain on all of your relationships.  If you are adopting with someone else, you need to have a rock-solid relationship with that person BEFORE you adopt.  If you are adopting as a single, you have to be prepared to devote all of your relationship creating-and-maintaining energy to creating a bond between you and your child, earning that child's trust, etc.

Adopted children all come with a special set of emotional needs.  It takes a stable home environment.  It is not in their best interest to be brought into a home environment where things are in constant flux, whether that means that "mom" and "dad" haven't really agreed to a permanent relationship or that their single parent is cycling through relationships and exposing the child to strangers who they are expected to bond with but who are out of the picture forever after a short time.

Understand that I'm not saying that ONLY married people can adopt.  If a person is single and committed to staying that way for at least a few years and focusing on their relationship with their child, I think it that single parenting can be great.

  3. One cannot possibly have a stable, committed, long term relationship in two years.  And to prove that, you are not married.  So why would an ethical adoption agency place a child into a less than stable situation, when there are many many very stable, committed, couples who have been married for many years waiting to adopt.

Work on your relationship, decide where it is going, make sure it is stable, and THEN think a bout adding a baby to the scenario.  For the child's sake!  Good luck!

  4. yES YOU HAVE TO BE MARRIED AT LEAST A YEAR TO ADOPT GOOD LUCK

  5. Try asking an adoption agency

  6. Most places require you to be married for at least two years before beginning the adoption process. If you want to adopt, start planning the wedding now.

  7. you should definitely get married first even if you're not required by law to. If your not commited enough to get married you definitely don't seem responsible enough or mature enough to care 4 a child.in my opinion.Good luck getting married & God bless you 4 adopting

  8. In most states, you cannot adopt as a couple if you are not married.  One of you could adopt as a single parent.  The other would just be the boyfriend/girlfriend.  I think the correct order to do things is: 1) stable relationship, 2) marriage, 3) children, adopted or not.

  9. If you go international: you will probably need to be married.  Many countries will not allow singles to adopt.  Some countries also have age limits (both upper and lower).

If you go public domestic and live apart, you will likely need to go through foster parent training first.  If you live together, you will both go through the training.

If you go domestic private, marital status does not matter.  Just keep in mind that a young, single pregnant girl will generally feel better about placing her child with a complete family (married couple) rather than with a single person, or unmarried couple because she will be looking for a stable home environment for her unborn child.

    Best wishes.

  10. wow good for you get married first then hit the adoption agencies
