Wow, 24 yards, that's some shovelling. As the first answer says if the soil is more than 1 or two inches deep then the grass will be killed.

I suggest you leave the soils for a few weeks to allow weeds to germinate first, spray them with contact herbicide and then you will have less weeds when you rake over and plant your lawn - oh yes, you'll have to plant a lawn. Wild grass would take forever and look horrible.

That all depends on how the dirt is going to be spread.  If it is going to be more than three or four inches, throw down grass seed.
