He failed AQA English paper B. Is it possible for him to pay to sit it again next year in another Venue? or does he have to remain at his upper school inorder to resit?

How much would it cost him and will the exam still be in June?

  1. it's best to speak to the exam board direct but usually you need the support of a school to retake it so you have somewhere to sit it and support the coursework.

  2. Seperate sixth form colleges will certainly offer GCSEs.

  3. There were a few people from the year above that were taking the same English paper as us today even though they left the school last summer so he could talk to his school see what they can do.  If he was ill they may well pay for a resit but maybe not if he isn't staying there.  Also there are plenty of adult learning places away from school, my mum took GCSE maths and english a few years back and didn't have to pay a penny.  Oh and they do the English exams in both June and November so he could take it whenever he likes.

  4. Hi. Your boyfriend would have to sit the whole exam again - not just the one paper but the good news is that he can just take a resit and doesn't have to attend college. He can apply as an external student.

Tell him to talk to the VIth form about resits and ask to apply. My daughter took two exams as an external candidate this June and it cost me £33 per exam so its not too bad. The resits are in November but he really needs to talk to the college sooner rather than later because I think the cut off date for applying is possibly end of Aug / September time.

    Good luck

  5. Your boyfriend shouldn't have to stay at upper school in order to resit but he will need to be pretty motivated to study at home without tutoring help if he doesn't want to go back there.

He needs to sit the exam at a school or college affiliated to the examining board that he is sitting, that has accredited status to hold the exam. Check out your local education colleges to find out who runs the English GCSE, as they are all likely to organise & host the exams  & can let you know about your boyfriend applying to do a resit there at the same time.

I think the exams tend to be run in December and June time each year and you can apply to sit as an independant without having to go through the school at all,  but am not sure what the costs involved are now.

He must be gutted - but I hope that the resit brings him a pass.

  6. how is he sure he failed
