my boyfriend got an 87 on his asvab what navy jobs can do?

he kind of wants a job that doesnt involve a lot of deployments. He doest mind being deployed but are there any jobs that may get deployed less than others? he is considering being a cook but im sure they get deployed alot because ships need cooks

  1. If he is joining the navy, think about it,

    the navy has ships

    ships sail on the oceans

therefore, he will be on a ship sailing the ocean

  2. thats a high score. he can "qualify" for what he wants. but its not that simple. they will offer jobs based on what section of the test he did best on. and from THAT list he can choose what he wants.

  3. Whatever he does, dont let him become a military cop or a cook. They work long hours, all week, and have pretty miserable lives. I lost my best friend to the military police, it turned him into a pretty nasty person. One of my other friends was a cook, and he said it was terrible, cooking 14 hours a day every day.

Dont let them talk him into becoming a nuke either, that is also an extremely demanding job with few rewards.

Besides that, there are all sorts of great jobs in the Navy. Its a pretty good service in general, Hes going to make plenty of friends and going to see some pretty cool things.

Most of the technical jobs are very rewarding, like working on planes or working on sonars. Those jobs have pretty good hours and you get to play with some amazing stuff.

  4. He can probably do quite a bit.  I got an 89 and the recruiters wouldn't stop calling me offering me any job I wanted.

  5. The question is what cant he do. that is a good score and that will give him alot of choices so the best thing for him to do is to find something that he enjoys doing and go for it because if he picks a job that he will not like the chances of him having a good experience in the navy will be very slim. so the best thing for him to do is to go to about.com and type in navy ratings and go from there they will have all navy jobs and explain how there deployments work. but with any job he will eventually have to go out to sea.

  6. If he doesn't want a lot of deployments he needs to consider the Air Force or Coast Guard. Usually your first term is on Sea duty assigned to a ship. Ships are in port 6 mos and out to sea 6 mos. In the AF you may get a short tour to Korea or Greenland of 1 year and never go again in 20 years. You may deploy for 90 or 120 days at a time too but you spend a lot of time at home. There are a few Coasties that deploy overseas but usually are volunteers.

  7. It doesnt work like that. The line scores need to be tallied. For example, he is stronger in mechanical but does not qualify for an intel job. Post his line scores and we can go from there.

  8. Hi Kristin. First off a lot of these Yahooians are not giving you facts but mere opinions so listen up.

He got a good score, but the line scores are what matter, although i'm sure he can select any type of job he wants.

I would recommend anything in the ATF (Advanced Technical Field) such as CT (crypto tech) I know CTR hardly does any sea duty, so that would be one to look into. However he has to pass Top Secret Clearance.

Listen have your boyfriend and yourself join http://www.mynavyonline.com Im KJC88 there, we can help a lot more Navy wise than these Yahooians and give you accurate answers.

    Good luck!

  9. with an 87 almost anything
