Okay so he had a cold sore, and it wasn't open but somewhere in the process of kissing, my braces cut it open. I've been sick and now I'm mostly better but I have sores in my mouth. Like 3 or 4. It hurts to eat, drink, and brush my teeth. It's not good, I'm loosing weight because of it. Is there anything I can do to make them better? Or how long will it take for them to heal up? We kissed a little over a week ago and I've had the sores for maybe 3 days. Please help!!! Thanks!

  1. If he had a sore in his mouth, it doesnt matter if it was open or not, you now have it.  If he performed oral s*x on you, or vice versa, you and/or he will also have it on your genitals as well.

The best thing to do is to see a doctor and let him put you on zovirax which will help with the healing.  In addition take advil or tylenol for the pain.  You can also use an ointment with 20% benzocaine in it.

  2. cold sores are a form of herpes.

    herpes is for life.

you really shouldn't have been kissing him in the first place.

i suggest you call a pharmacist or doctor and see what they recommend.

  3. You definitely contracted the sores from your boyfriend. Honestly, you shouldn't have been kissing in the first place because you can still contract the virus even if the sore wasn't opened. My advice would be to gargle and swish areound some salt in water in your mouth. The salt will clean the sores but it will sting a little. But after a while the pain goes away. But, you should still see a doctor in case you contracted a major case of herpes rather than just cold sores. They can give you some liquid medicine to kill the virus. Hope this helped!

  4. yea u should've never kissed him in the first place. i just got rid of my cold sores about a month ago. i've been getting them since i was a little girl..but u should wash your mouth out with salt water. put ice on it. and then put abreva on it. (the ones that are not in your mouth if you have any outside of it). you should also go to the doctor because u might have herpes.

also, don'tt play with them because they will get bigger and spread.

  5. I got cold sores when I had the flu but it went away after 2 days cause I put medicine on it. but if you eat spicy foods your mouth will burn like h**l.

  6. If you have braces the sores may be cankers sores and not cold sores.  I have had cold sores all my life, and I have never had them inside my mouth - always outside on my lips or face.  If they are cold sores, they will most likely take a week to 10 days to heal, but I think they are canker sores.

Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores.  We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene.   Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores.  Only time will take care of that.  But there is a good prescription medication for cold sores.  It will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores.

The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex.  It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks.  None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else.  Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication.  My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and before Valtrex I was having several attacks a year.  On the rare occasions that I do get one now, it is gone almost immediately when I take the medication - in about a day.    In the meantime, here are a couple of informative links.
