what would cause the a/c to kick on and off for no apparent reason? When it works the a/c is ice cold. So he is thinking it is definitely an electrical problem. He has changed the head unit, and by the way, the car does not have ATC. Before he starts dumping tons of money into this POS, can anyone give us some clue? He has tried swapping out relays and is considering replacing the pcm. This car is not worth it. But right now we are not able to buy another car so we have to get this fixed. We live in the south and he's getting fed up with sweating his you know what off.

Please, no snide remarks. Just answers. Thanks.

  1. check your heat and check the blower w/o the ac.  If those work, then i would checke compressor or even a pressure hose.

  2. Thee are three things that can make the compressor tunr on and off, when you push the on swithc on the a/c controler a ground signal goes to the  compressor cycling switch, it is inside the a/c evaporator, and has a wire that is behind the glove compartment, get acces to this connector you'll find three or two wires on this connector one is B+, if you do not have B+ then you have a problem with the high pressure or the low pressure switch, if you have B+ then jump the B+ with the ground from the A/C controler, in a three wires connector you jump the two wirea to the sides ( pins 1 and 3) if the compressor engages then you have a bad cycling switch, that is ussually the problem, good luck, if you do not understand what I just explain then you have any bussiness trying to fix this problem, if you get lost... send me an e mail. I live in the south too, I know how it is, see you

  3. have him check the low pressure switch that will cause it to cycle its self like that ,either that or the air conditioner relay is going out on it,they will go through many cycles if the low pressure switch or the relay either one starts going bad,i have seen a lot of that this summer, good luck.

  4. you might have a leak. or a low charge of ac refrigerant.

    Good luck

  5. Check the compressor to make sure it is on when the A.C is on. If it is, check the blower motor. If the compressor is not on check for loose, damaged, or corroded wires.

  6. Does it sound like it is kicking on/off/on/off etc. all the time when it is turned on?  If so, Chrysler products were famous for that and I was told by the dealership that that is normal operation.  I don't know otherwise. My thinking might be also to check into the clutch assembly on the front  of the compressor for my personal thoughts.  Good Luck and let me know?
