I have it insured in my name, today he and his son (his son drove of course) took it fishing and I was kinda upset because I don't think his sons insurance (he has a car but didn't want to drive it today) will cover it if there was an accident.

I'm not sure if I would be held liable either, who would have been held liable if there had been an accident?

  1. If the car is insured in your name, then any accident it is involved in will be covered by your insurance.  It isn't very fair, but someone who borrows the car can total it and their insurance will never pay a penny.  Only the actual policy on the car will cover it.

  2. If a car is insured, anyone who drives the car that has a valid license and has pernission to drive will be covered (with very rare exceptions)
