  1. you need to be a skilled worker who's occupation is on the Australian SOL list (skilled occupation list) you must pass a points test medical and criminal check

    SOL

    points test

    visa

  2. You can only become an Australian citizen after being a  resident for at least 4 years including at least 1 year as a permanent resident, so your first (and most difficult) step is to obtain a visa that will allow you to stay and work.

Immigration to Australia is restricted to people whose occupation is one in which workers are in short supply. Carpenter is on the Migrant Occupations in Demand List (MODL) but funeral director is not on any of the lists. If your boyfriend is able to get a visa, you may be able to come with him as his spouse if you can satisfy the requirements for being accepted as his spouse.

In addition to meeting the jobs in demand requirement, applicants must also pass a points test, be able to have their qualifications recognised here and meet health and character requirements. Your credit score will not be relevant.

Check out our immigration website http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm and the following specific pages for all information including visa costs:

Don't bother with migration agents or attorneys. Most people have no trouble doing everything themselves.

  3. Call the US embassy to Australia. They are very strict about citizenship. Or apply on-line for your visa to get started at:

You cannot even enter the country on vacation if you have a felony (even if it's for drunk driving), you have to get pre- approved if you attempt to enter they will reject you.

Your best bet is to retain an Immigration Attorney so be proactive and call the embassy to get started.
