He's Canadian. I love in Texas. He wants to move here so he can live and work. My dad's company is probably willing to sponsor him.

What exactly are our options for getting him here? I'm not looking for vagueness. Thanks!

  1. you do not want to move hereee! you people have way better health benefits and insurance.

  2. As you know, we are having a lot of trouble with illegal aliens crossing over the border.  The very best way to find out what you have to do is call the Immigration Service and ask.  Don't fib on his background or his history, or his circumstance... tell the truth and you will be far, far better off.

  3. For your dad's company to sponsor him the following applies...

    1. Your boyfriend needs a college degree.

    2. The job your dad has for him has to require him to use the knowledge/skills from the degree to perform the job.

    3. Your dad's company needs to obtain a certificate from the US Department of Labor certifying that no US citizen or permanent resident is available to take the job.

Even if all this applies it's likely to take years before he gets the visa.  All the 2009 visas have been spoken for and the 2010 applications won't be looked at until April of 2009.

  4. I can't really answer your questions specifically because of your vagueness.

You have a Canadian boyfriend that wants to move to the US to live and work (and presumably move his relationship along with you).  Your dad's company is willing to sponsor him.  That's great.  But you haven't mentioned what business your father is in and whether or not your boyfriend has qualities necessary to the job not found within the US.

Workers are categorized and visa numbers are issued based off certain criteria.  You are asking for specifics without telling us if your father's company is a private hospital and your b/f is a brain surgeon.

If you go to the uscis.gov website, click for green card information, then sponsorship through employment, it will tell you exactly what criteria is necessary for the employment visas and which one your b/f should apply for.

  5. Go to work permit.com. He would need an H 1 B visa which is subject to the lottery system. Call the bar association in your state to find a good immigration lawyer. Without a lawyer it takes a lot longer.

  6. Marry him.

    Seriously.

This is the best way to do it quickly. Do a web search on immigration by marriage.

Otherwise, if he can qualify for a TN visa, by having a degree in certain fields, then there is that route as well. Do a web search for "TN Visa".
