  1. you would have apply to immigrate, as he is not a resident he can not sponsor you

  2. You don't need to be engaged. If you are in de facto relationship you can be on the same visa as your boyfriend. He is the primary applicant, you are the secondary applicant. You do not need your own visa.

Most Australian visas, except some student visas, allow the visa holder to bring in their family. If you have been together a certain amount of time you would be considered a dependent family member.

Speak to whoever is arranging your boyfriends visa to put you on the same application. It is not too complicated, and not too expensive.

What is does mean is that your visa status is tied up with his visa status. If he loses his job, or his visa is cancelled, then you are stuck. If your relationship ends, you are also at risk of losing your visa, because the reason that you are in Australia, you are the family of a sponsored worker, no longer applies. So they are the risks that you need to consider.

  3. If you can prove that you have lived together for at least a year and have a joint bank account shared car insurance etc you should have no prob, i am moving Sydney in august and that's what I had to do for my visa.

If you cant prove or have not lived together in your own place then you would not be able to go on his visa.

On my visa to get my fiancee on it I had to send A years worth of are bank statements, year worth of bills, prof that we shared the property, statements off are family and friends and had to write are self's how we carried out household chores what are are interests and hobbies that we do together etc, there was a fair bit of work to do but it had to be done.

    hope i have helped

  4. You would be required to stay on a visa, be it a student or working visa until the time you are married. Is your bf going to become a permanent resident? If so you would be able to stay on a spousal visa and would too need to apply for residency.
