My boyfriend is doing my head in!!

Question

just lately he has been so horrible, i cant do anything right. if i buy him anything he doesnt like it. if i ask him does he want to go out for something to eat just us and our son he invites people if we at home together he just sits on the pc. he is just being impossible to make happy. if we go out and i am having a good time and laughing he asks me why i am laughing and starts having a go at me. at the weekend when he is off work he will just mope around the house and moan until i ask him does he want to go to the pub with his friends, he just doesnt seem to be happy when he is with me and our son he only happy when he is at the pub or out somewhere with friends! if i ask him if there is something wrong he says no! i cant cope anymore, he never used to be like this! what can i do?

Sounds like text book depression to me. I went through something very similar a few years back (I didn't have a kid then). For me, it was the routines that drove me nuts. Life had no more mystery, and I was only 24 years old. My wife at the time (I'm divorced now) tried everything to get me out of my slump, but nothing worked. Just be patient with him. Don't bother him about it. Start going out and doing things without him. If he has a go at you, tell him that you wouldn't be going out without him if he'd let you enjoy yourself. Depression is an ugly monster. It turns people into someone that they themselves don't even like, and that only contributes to the problem. The bottom line is, it won't get better until he lets it. Try to be supportive as much as possible. Just don't give up.
