My boyfriend is very interested in oil rig line but he has no experience yet. Any ideas where he should go to?

He is willing to learn and to start from bottom. I tried to find courses for him but most of them offer courses for companies and not individual. I really need help. It saddens me when I have to tell him that I didn't find anything for him. Are there any Singaporeans working in the oil rig line out there? I really need to ask for your opinions.

It's almost impossible to get entry level work from Singapore. His best option is to apply to a service company like Aker, Cameron, NOV or Vetco Gray. After learning their Product line he may have an opportunity to change over.

If he has specific skill fields he might find interim work at Keppel FELS.

I am not sure where you are, but there are a few schools in Canada that offer courses for offshore oilrigs that drill in the North Atlantic. Here is a link to one of them. It may help you with ideas about what to look for. Best of luck with it.

Go to www.deepwater.com it is the website for Transocean. Transocean is the largest offshore driller with over 100 vessels throughout the world. There are plenty of job opportunities even starting at the bottom. Even at the bottom as an ordinary seaman or Roustabout the money is good 45-50k plus. The work schedule is 2 or 3 weeks on and the same amount of time off. The entry level jobs do not have paid travel so to make it viable you may have to move. Other companies include Diamond, Pride, Frontier and Seadrill. There are some good opportunities out there so tell him to keep at it. Do not let him go into offshore catering. He may be working in the oil field but there are few of the benefits that comes from working for the actual drilling contractor. Hope this helps.

The oil industry is going to have a major personnel shortage for the next 15 years. If you get in it now there is ALOT of money to be made.
