He has been on the inhaler since he was about 3 and he is almost 20 now. I'm also asthmatic but i have a son and he isn't a year yet. but My boyfriend wants to get married in a couple years and have kids so he is worried about this and the cost of getting tested. How much would it cost for him to get tested

  1. kleigh's mommy must not know much about anatomy.  Astham affects the bronchia as well as lungs, lungs take in oxygen to the blood cells, red blood cells feed the entire body (including the reproductive system) so yes indeed Asthma CAN affect the reproductive system.  Not enough oxygen means a decrease in sperm count.  It's not the steroids that will affect his ability to produce sperm, however you might discuss with him getting off the inhaled steroids and onto another form of inhalent, of course that will mean discussing it with his doctor.

  2. asthma doesnt effect sperm in any way

  3. Inhaled steroids (if that's what he's on) are completely different to the sort that bodybuilders inject (which do indeed reduce your fertility).

The other answerer is correct that low blood oxygen can be an issue, so it's important that his asthma stays controlled. He should NOT give up his inhaler.

  4. My boyfriend is asthmatic too ... We had problems conceiving but that was on my side, since I had no ovulation... First ovulation I got, we conceived so I'd say his sperm was pretty strong. I wouldn't worry if I were your bf.
