  1. He doesn't get to call you. When he first arrives he'll have 1 phone call to his parent/guardian/spouse that literally goes "Recruit ___ has arrived safely at ___." *click* The Drill Sergeant hangs up the phone.

The first week is all in-processing. He'll send out a prewritten letter with his address to his parent/guardian/spouse the beginning of the 2nd week stating his address. Call his parents to get his address if you don't hear from him by the end of the 2nd week.

They have family day the day before graduation and after graduation he will have possibly 10 days (the Marines do) leave before reporting to A school.

  2. he gets time on Sundays ONLY to do personal stuff.

he may not get to call at all.  he gets ONE when he arrives to say he got there.  any others must be earned..and don't expect him to earn any the first month..and when he does..he may choose to call his parents instead.

if he is Grad N go.. he will not be permitted to spend any time with your after PIR..he will go directly to  A school.  if he isn't he will have all or part of the weekend.  he must be back on base by 9 pm each night and if he has a watch, he cannot leave base  that day until he has stood the watch.. even if that watch is at 10 pm that night.

  3. He will get a phone call when he arrives at RTC, it will be about 10 seconds.  From there, phone calls and letter writing is a privledge and as such must be earned.  At a minimum, with the exception of the first Sunday, he will have some private time on SUnday Mornings.

With regard to graduation, yes he will be going direct to A school.  He will pass in review on Friday, and should have weekend liberty to spend with family and friends.  Probably be on the bus/plane Monday or Tuesday to A school, unless he is going across the street.  Then they will march over.

  4. he gets one call when he gets there, its manditory to call his next of kin, so his mom or dad (unless your his wife). He will give them the proper mailing address and I think they can only write letters on sundays. when you get them depends on the ostal service sometimes you will get 3 letters at a time, sometimes none. he wont have much time for writing, that burdon really is on you, write him alot, include current events and stuff cause there is absolutely no contact with the outside world when hes there. I think the last three days he will have time to go with his family around chicago, and whether he gets the traditional week off depends on his rate, sometimes they require you to go directly to A-school.

  5. When I went to boot camp back in 06 I think I called home 3 times.  We had really relaxed Drill instructors though.  After graduation yes, he will be able to spend time with you and his family.  That Sunday he will either catch a plane to a-school or get in buses to go across the street.
