My boyfriend needs new glasses...?

but he doesnt have the money and insurance obviously won't cover it. What can he do? He's desperate and his family wont help and I don't have the money.

Depending on his situation, you may be able to get assistance from the Lions club or other civic organization.

Nice family, of course there is probably more to the story though.

I would contact the insurance company b/c all the insurance I have ever come into contact with will cover glasses. If not I see the Lions club takes old glasses at my optometrist and they say they give them to less fortunate.

You don't indicate how old your boyfriend is.  I presume he is working. He needs to save some money each and every paycheck. That's all there is to it.  Then he needs to shop around to find cheap frames.  I understand the situation as I've been there. Just one lens in a used frame for me is $150.  

Lions club doesn't help anybody in the US with glasses, as far as I know. All those glasses donations go to 3rd world countries where they can't even afford one pair, much less a replacement.
