Question:

My braces are making my cheeks bleed, what do I do?

I don't have my braces completed yet, but I have the metal bar thing on the inside of my bottom teeth and two sharp things on the corners of my bottom teeth. I also have two things on the corners of my top teeth, but they don't hurt me. The sharp things on the corners of my bottom teeth are very painful, I can't do anything without them scratching me. Even right now my cheeks are bleeding because of it. I can't eat, yawn, smile, or laugh without a lot of pain. What should I do?

  1. put wax on them. your orthodontist should've given you some.

  2. it might not be cut all the wat like it is supposed to be that wat happened to me

  3. They usually give you some soft wax to put on them at the orthodontist. Ask them next time. See if you can buy some wax for the meanwhile-- maybe some of those Nik-L-Nip candies.

  4. I found the best thing for braces cuts : Listerine the mouthwash: it reduces the pain and by a day or 2 the cut should heal.

  5. Get brace wax from the drugstore, and put a generous glob on each sharp thing.  Be sure to keep some at home and some at school or in your binder/notebook so you can always apply some quickly--you don't want to let your cheeks get shredded.

The other thing that helps (don't laugh) are frozen banana chunks.  They seem to stay frozen longer than ice, so they numb up the area some, they make sort of 'bumpers' between the metal and your cheeks, and the banana taste is good.  Orabase from the drugstore helps with gum/cheek/tooth pain, but it doesn't taste too hot.  If cold things help, try jello, applesauce, softened ice cream, etc.  Don't chew ice.

Feels like someone stuck fish hooks in there, doesn't it?

This is great motivation for you to wear your bands and do what the orthodontist tells you, because the sooner your teeth move, the sooner the metal comes out of your mouth.  It took me a few months to figure that out. . . .

    Good luck, sweetie!!

  6. Put some wax or tell your orthodontist and he or she will snip off the part that is making your cheeks bleed.

  7. Put the wax your ortho gave you on them. You will feel a million times better.. Then go have it checked at ASAP to see if they can fix it.. You really shouldn't have anything poking you.

  8. your orthodontist should have gave you some wax put it aroung the area and that should help if not try orejel it numbs the mouth.

  9. Go to a drug store, there's something called brace wax and it's wax that you pull off a little piece and stick it to the spot that's bothering you.  It pads it so it doesn't irritate your mouth.

  10. Call your orthodonist ASAP to help you. Don't worry people go through all this stuff in the begiining it is going to get much better.

  11. get some wax! ask your ortho or go to longs or another store like that. and if your braces are bugging you that bad, tell your ortho and they will help to make you more comfortable!

  12. Yeah, put some wax on them or see your orthodonist and he'll snap off the part that's hurting for you.

  13. put wax on them but i think you could also put gum on them(not chewed)

  14. if they are sharp edges put a little wax on it, but go back to the orthodontist and him/her cut off the sharp edges that are cutting into your skin
