My braces/expander are killing me!?

Question

Well my braces are kinda okay now except they had to cut one of the wires in front so the expander would actually work and now they the wires get caught in my gums and lips.

Also my expander makes it hard to swallow and makes my teeth hurt when i chew.

Help me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

1) Call your dentist to ask if they can do something about the wire.  If it's cutting your mouth, they can most likely adjust it so that it won't do that.  Until then, get some dental wax from a drugstore, it will be with the toothbrushes and toothpaste and put that over the parts in your mouth that are rubbing and hurting.  If they can't make the wires more comfortable, this will become your best friend because it really makes it so your mouth can't get caught in your braces.

2) I am assuming that you just got your expander adjusted or put in.  Stick with soft foods for a few days, try taking Advil (ibuprofen) or Tylenol for pain and it will get easier to swallow with the expander, you just have to get used to it.

Hang in there, call your orthodontist if you need to and just know that in a few days, you should feel much better.  I know the pain and it isn't fun, but I promise it does go away.

Take some panadol/tylenol or whatever you have - take the stronger version of it.  It will help, but not when it comes to eating.  You're just going to have to put up with it and eat soft foods - soup, small amounts of bread, etc.  Just things that require little chewing.  Chew on your back teeth too.  

Next time you go to the orthodontist take some paracetamol or ibuprofen before hand.  It wont kill you but it will be in your system before the pain happens and it wont be as painful.
